RAMPART RAMBLE

On this tour, we’ll take a trip around the medieval walls and defence systems of Berwick-upon-Tweed.

We’ll explore the historic quayside and the adjacent granaries, views of the three bridges of Berwick, one of Berwick’s remaining medieval towers, and even a custom-built storage house for gunpowder. We’ll head along one of the finest examples of Elizabethan fortifications in the country and follow the walls lined with Georgian architecture surrounded by sea views. Discover how Berwick and its coastline inspired artwork by renowned artist L.S. Lowry  and delve into the turbulent history of life on the borders.
